Good design need not be disposable.
At 13 years old the family was conducting an estate sale in my grandmothers home, a eccentric collector of anything. As I watched people walk away with mundane things like a blender, a box of coat hangers or her twenty year collection of hotel soaps, I wondered why all of the beautiful things remained unsold: 1950’s Christmas ornaments, reams of 40’s drafting paper, a boxes of swinging 60’s cocktail glasses and more ended up unsold and eventually tossed. My little heart ached for all of the objects curated over a lifetime, lost to history.
Decades later and having moved to the Netherlands from NYC there was no better time to indulge my passion of rescuing objects of fading interest from ambivalent obscurity. Furniture seen as too worn for a proper setting, art who’s creator was only known to the next of kin and quirky decorative items long past their novelty, find relevance in this century through appreciation and a little humor. I aim to not only bring these items to those who will prolong their expiration date, but due so with a cheeky grin and a desire to add historical depth to their spaces.
